I liked it when I was at school that in mathematics lessons everything was logical and comprehensible. Different from, for example, the languages with all the exceptions and deviations from the rules. I still like that in my field of study. Besides, I didn't know where exactly I would like to work later. Mathematics leaves a lot of possibilities open: I can go to the automotive industry, to the aerospace industry, to software development, to an insurance company, to a bank, to university and I even know mathematicians who work as teachers. The mathematicians are therefore seen almost everywhere, because they can abstract, think logically and argue, analyse, analyse, recognize laws, etc. The mathematicians are happy to do so.
Why Otto-von-Guericke University? I chose Magdeburg as my place of study for family reasons. Only later I got to know and appreciate the condition at our university. Especially after spending a semester at another university and seeing my sister's FH. The Otto-von-Guericke University offers its students not only renovated or new premises, but also good supervision. There are not so many maths students yet and so it is not surprising that most professors know the students by name and are happy to answer questions.
I made a conscious decision to have my two children during my studies. I didn't miss much of the examinations and I knew that I would get support from my professors. That's the way it was. With a baby it's not easy to prepare for the exams, to finish seminar lectures or to do tutorials on the side (that was my part-time job). But every professor knows that, and that's how they often came to meet me. Of course, no one is given anything for free, but most of us understand that it takes a little longer to prepare or instead of sitting in the lecture, caring for the sick child at home.
